| 2007 Summer Picnic - An Old California Bull's Head Breakfast at the Adobe de Palomares, Pomona |
||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| In July of 2007, Culinary Historians President Charles Perry led and intrepid group of historians in preparing a traditional Early California pit barbecue brunch at the historic Palomares Adobe in Pomona. This involves burning hundreds of pounds of wood in a pit the night before, then lowering the cloth-wrapped marinated meat into the pit and burying it. When we dug it up in the morning, we enjoyed incredibly tender, deeply smoky barbecued meat - a festival treat from the days when the Spanish ruled California. Other historians contributed an array of side dishes, and we feasted the morning away in a beautiful garden. | ||||||
